Librarian Hipness: Different Viewpoints
There's been some reaction to the NYT article by librarians and library staff who disagree. Check out Heretical Librarian for his thoughts. He also provides links to similar thoughts at Shush and by the Annoyed Librarian.

Those are hilarious!
Cow got carried away at the heretical librarian site.
Thanks for posting the alt views.
You can take the cow out of the library but guess you can't take the librarian out of the cow!
Moo!
Sorry you've had a problem with spammers library guy.
Really these word verifications are a hoot, the one right now requires two dots over an i.
Cow's keyboard doesn't even do that.
Moo!
Ah. Nice read, Cow. I responded to a post on It's All Good. One person thought that using guybrarian, which I've been called, was odd.
I also checked out Jessamyn West's site. She wrote: I thought the article was silly and decent for what it was (a style article) and I usually think that anything that doesn’t flat out call us losers and psychopaths is okay by me. What I found most interesting, besides reading people’s commentary on it, was the generated buzz.
You might want to check out the site. She's gotten a lot of feedback there as well.
"losers and psychopaths"
*snif*
Boy is our profession held in high esteem.
When Cow worked the desk, she ranted that were librarians only differentiated by white coats or other attire, as doctors are differentiated by nurses by their attire, the public might:
- treat us as professionals
- realize that librarians ARE professionals
- not always assume we are just clerks
This rant was never acted upon, just as her calls for libraries to charge admission to reduce the amount of "homeless-camping-out" factor was never acted upon either.
Isn't everyone glad Cow with her radical ideas has mooooved on to greener pastures?
Moo!
